This last weekend made me so happy. I loved the weather . . . ahhhhhh, that sunshine and warmth! I loved being able to get outside and enjoy the fresh spring smells! I was very fortunate to also get to enjoy some wonderful soccer. On Saturday, my family and I went to the Columbus Crew match to watch them play against New York City. Then on Sunday (after too long of a break!) TOPSoccer was back! Having the two events so close together, made me pause and think about the game of soccer and how much of an impact it can have in unifying such a wide variety of people.
The Columbus Crew game on Saturday played by some of the best in the US was exhilarating. The pace of game, the skill of the players, the goals scored . . . it was thrilling to watch! Then there is the crowd! Young to old, all ethnicities, all abilities – all cheering for their team. We all left the stadium with huge grins on our faces, reliving moments of the game as we made our way to the car. It was such a great time.
Then on Sunday we had TOPSoccer and I left with the same huge grin on my face. Watching our TS participants involved in the game of soccer and learning new skills just fills my heart. And seeing our TFA players engaging and working alongside our participants reminds me that there is such a greater purpose here than the game of soccer. We are breaking down barriers and unifying all using the World’s Greatest Game – SOCCER!
Two completely different types of soccer. Two completely different environments. The same result. It truly is the World’s Greatest Game!
